Applying to Undergraduate Entry Medicine can be complicated, but not with this easy to use guide that takes you through the whole process.
You should create a shortlist of universities that you want to go to - make sure that you visit the universities or at least go on a virtual tour so that you can really get a feel of the uni! When making a shortlist, you should take into account whether you want to take the UCAT (previously known as the UKCAT), the BMAT, or both admissions tests. You need to know whether you will be taking the UCAT or BMAT as early as possible so that you can start to prepare to get the best chance of success.
Make sure that you book the BMAT and the UCAT in advance.
The UCAT should be taken before your application is submitted, but the BMAT can be taken before or after you submit your application - head over to the Admissions Tests section for more information on the UCAT and the BMAT.
It would also be advisable to start on your Personal Statement as early as possible - take a look at the Personal Statement section for more information on this.
The application deadline for Medicine 2021 Entry is usually mid-October but always aim to get your application in early for the best chance of success.
Once your application has been submitted, all you can do is wait for an invitation to interview. If invited to interview then make sure that you take plenty of time to prepare, practice possible questions as much as possible and do as many mock interviews as is possible. The format of the interview stage will differ between universities so make sure you know which type you will have to face. For more information on the interview stage take a look at the Interview section.
If successful at interview, you will receive an offer from the university, which will most likely be dependent upon you acheiving certain criteria (i.e. Grades).
So, make sure that you:
-
Make a Shortlist of the Universities that you might like to attend, look at what Admissions Tests they require.
-
Go to University Open Days to filter down your Shortlist, so that you can finally arrive at 4 courses that you want to apply to. Choose a 5th course that is not Medicine, in the event that you are unsuccessful in the application to Medicine.
-
Determine whether you need to take the UCAT or the BMAT. Once you know, book the tests and start revising - take a look at the Admissions Tests Section for more information on the different types of tests. Ideally, you should know what tests you are taking by the end of June.
