Interviews

There are 3 different ways that you could be interviewed, and the interview style differs from one university to another. This sections explores the different ways that you might be interviewed.

In order to get a place at Med School, you will most likely have to do an interview with the university. The style of the interview will differ from one university to another, but each university will use one of the three following styles:

  • Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs)

  • Traditional Interviews - either by one person or by a panel

  • Group Interviews

Multiple Mini Interviews consist of different stations. The stations test applicants for different qualities that they believe are necessary for Medicine as a career. The stations could consist of anything, but the most common stations will involve problem-solving, mock scenarios with patients, or ethical scenarios. The stations may not be directly connected with Medicine, but instead the qualities that are important to go to Med School.

Traditional Interviews consists of questions about why you wish to study Medicine and other questions about your application, traditional interviews are very different from MMIs. Typically, traditional interviews will be carried out by either just one person or a panel.

Group Interviews are fairly similar to the traditional interviews described above, but instead of facing just one interviewer or a panel by yourself, you will instead be with a group and face different questions. In group interviews you will most likely be given a topic to discuss and evaluate as a group - by doing this they can assess a number of different qualities at once.

Generally, questions asked in any of the interviews named above will be based upon a large number of topics, which can include ones about your application, yourself, any current medical issues (sometimes known as NHS Hot Topics), and sometimes on medical ethics.
